"We wanted a mascot that was classic, fierce, and at the same time friendly. We had one alumnus who was particularly opposed to Roanoke breaking tradition and adopting a mascot. After he saw Rooney and the new branding program that Phoenix did for us, he said, 'OK, now I'm sold.' We blazed through the design process under very tight deadline pressure and launched Rooney, or first ever official mascot. A few days after the dust settled, I sat back and thought to myself, 'Now THAT, is one kick ass mascot! Phoenix Delivered."
